Defeated Sanity, Skeletal Remains, Vitriol, and Splattered touched down in Vegas to end their tour; which was 30 shows in 31 days. Impressed? I am. It was a lovely Saturday afternoon when I met up with our good friend, Annie; (Into The Pit with Annie) at The Dive Bar in the middle of Las Vegas. What was the occasion? Brutal death metal, of course. We had both been talking about this show for a few days prior, and how excited we were to enjoy some more of the heavier side of the incoming shows.

I by no means will even pretend to act like I am super well versed in the world of brutal death metal. Even though I very much enjoy the music and the live shows. (I did get to see Suffocation years ago at the House of Blues when they would host Summer Slaughter and tours of that nature; so I know that I enjoy the music and atmosphere, that’s about as far as it goes as far as detailed knowledge.) However, my good friend Annie is EXTRA versed in this genre. You’d have a much more in depth viewpoint if you were to read her insights.

Familiarity

I was not extra familiar with the majority of this bill; with the exception of VITRIOL who we covered at Holiday Hellfest in Downtown Vegas a few years back; and SKELETAL REMAINS, who I was actually the most excited to see. Their previous ventures into the City of Sin I was unable to attend. (Or I missed them due to circumstances out of my control. Check out Ethan’s review piece from when they played with Hatebreed the last time they were here.)

The entire bill in order was FOUL DEFORMITY, SPLATTERED, VITRIOL, SKELETAL REMAINS, DEFEATED SANITY. Foul Deformity was the local band on the bill. (I talk about them a little bit in another preview piece HERE.) SPLATTERED seemed to share guitarists and drum kits with Defeated Sanity, which is just a small detail I picked out in observation. Annie had introduced me to one of the guitarists of VITRIOL not long after we got into the door, they were third on this bill. SKELETAL REMAINS seemed to be a bit of a co-headliner here, the crowd for them was pretty crazy and I ended up stuck on one side of the Divebar floor space. And for the final act we have German brutal progressive death metal band DEFEATED SANITY. Who, like the others, had the floor in full swing.

Gotta be careful tracking through these pits! I ended up getting my shots and then sitting back at the bar to enjoy the rest of their set. (My camera battery had died, anyway.) I did notice that one of the guitarists for Skeletal Remains joined Defeated Sanity on stage for the final HOORAH, which I really loved. I would have gotten photos of that if my camera’s battery hadn’t died, ha!

Check out an interview that Into the Pit with Annie did with Defeated Sanity HERE.

Enough of my rambling, enjoy some photos of the bands!
