Sick New World Sideshow gives the Vegas crowd an Industrial Treat from 2 of the genre’s legendary bands
Kicking off the Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas, Nitzer Ebb and Front 242 packed the Brooklyn Bowl on April 25, 2024 with a sideshow event. Standing outside the Brooklyn Bowl before the doors opened, the LINQ Prominade became populated by people passing by in Nitzer Ebb and Front 242 attire. People spanning generations and ethnicities discernably showing the magnitude of the impact of their music to this day.
Nitzer Ebb kicked off the show. Bon Harris entered the stage with the energy and enthusiasm that has been synonymous with Nitzer Ebb since their inception in 1983. Our ears were graced with the electronic melodies of songs such as “Let Your Body Learn”, “Hearts and Minds”, and “Join in the Chant”. Bon’s engagement with the fans was ever present. Douglas McCarthy’s absence was certainly felt, but defiantly understood and respected by fans. It was announced last month that he has withdrawn from live shows “for the foreseeable future” due to his diagnosis of cirrhosis of the liver.
Front 242 brought light to the darkness by commencing their set with “First In-First Out” whilst wielding flashlights. The crowd roared and continued to become more energized with each song. Fans could be seen singing, jumping, and dancing throughout the Brooklyn Bowl. The energy they brought appeared to make everyone forget all their woes to be present in the moment with the iconic band that is Front 242. Their set ended with performing “Welcome to Paradise”. After the first notes hit everyone’s ears the crowd began to chant in excitement. “Hey poor, you don’t have to be poor anymore! Jesus is here!” resonated off the walls as everyone sang along. As the set ended, the crowd expressed their love for the Belgian electronic industrial pioneers that are Front 242.
