April 22, 2024 – Las Vegas locals TYRANTS BY NIGHT released their EP, “Voice in the Dark.” This EP features two brand new songs, as well as three re-recorded songs from their first album, “A Test of Patience” which was released in 2017. According to the band’s bandcamp profile, this new EP was mixed and mastered by New Age Audio, which is vocalist Aron O’Connor’s very own mixing company. – That right there, pretty fucking cool.

Now, there may or may not be some bias here for me, but I’ve watched these guys for years hustling in the Vegas scene. Having seen them open up for Death Angel, Enforcer & Gwar, Adelitas Way, and they have also graced the stages of John Gist’s Vegas Rock Revolution showcases. Basically, I’ve seen them a lot. So I was eager to sit down and take in this new release because I already genuinely have enjoyed listening, watching, and photographing them through the years.

What I’ve always liked most about Tyrants by Night is their overall thrashy heavy metal sound. They’ve got the kind of tones that could easily turn on anyone who’s into Metallica or just about anything that came out of the Bay Area in the 80’s. I could also say that they could very well peak the interest of fans of Shinedown, Godsmack, insert just about any heavier radio rock band here. This should be taken as a good thing. The elements that come through Tyrants by Night’s music is versatile and diverse enough to peak the interests, but also heavy enough to keep those die hard metalheads hooked. “Voice in the Dark” presents something that is familiar but also fresh to the ears.

Now, those who know me know I don’t have a rating system to these things. But I will tell you that I’ve listened to this release about a dozen times back to back, while my toddler sits next to me and headbangs, and the music isn’t getting old or redundant. So I’d say this is a worthy release for any metalhead to check out!

On these new recordings, Matt O’Rourke sings the lead vocals for all the faster heavier songs on the EP like Heaven’s Die, Voice in the Dark and Tyrants by Night; and Aron O’Connor sings the lead vocals for Judgment and Conclusion.

Tyrants by Night will be opening up the Count’s Vamp’d stage for Armored Saint on Tuesday, May 21st alongside Dinner Music for the Gods. If you’re planning on hitting that show, you would be a FOOL to not get there early and watch Tyrants by Night rip shit up!
