When you think about iconic bands who are also vastly underrated, it’s a treat to get two that come to mind on the same bill.

On August 9th, Love & Rockets along with Jane’s Addiciton took over the Theatre at Fontainbleau, blowing away the crowd.

Love & Rockets.

Kicking off the evening was the iconic Love & Rockets. Not familiar? Does the name Poptone ring a bell? What about Tones on Tail? Still no? Here’s one for you: Bauhaus.

L&R is comprised of the members of Bauhaus sans vocalist Peter Murphy, with guitarist Daniel Ash taking over on lead vocal. Rounding out the British rock group is David J Haskins on bass and Kevin Haskins on drums.

They began their set with “The Light”, leaving the crowd screaming for more as soon as the song ended. Ash and the Haskins’ swayed along to the music they played and thanked the crowd for coming out. Their dreamy, 11 song set, which had some of my favorites like “No New Tale to Tell” and of course their most well known song, “So Alive”, set the tone perfectly for what was coming up with Jane’s Addiction later in the evening. They also included their cover of The Temptations’ “Ball of Confusion (That’s What the World Is Today)”; which as a huge fan of The Temps, who usually hates covers of their stuff, Love & Rockets does a fantastic job of making it their own, and in today’s world, its message still holds true.

L&R closed out their set with “Yin and Yang (The Flowerpot Man)” along with a goodbye for now to the crowd, who took the opportunity to rest their dancing feet.

Jane’s Addiction.

The gorgeous Fontainbleau Theater was the place to be to witness legendary band Jane’s Addiction, with their classic line up of Perry Farrell on vocals, Dave Navarro on guitar, Stephen Perkins on drums and Eric Avery on bass, they kicked off their reunion tour at Fontainebleau Las Vegas and what a night it was!

From the first strains of “Kettle Whistle” you felt somehow magically transported back to the mid 90’s… when we were younger, wilder, and searching for something; we never were quite sure what that was, but Jane’s Addiction provided the soundtrack a lot of the time. The band sounds as good as they ever did, running through a set that included such classics as “Pigs in Zen”, “Jane Says”, “Mountain Song”, “Stop” and of course “Been Caught Stealin'”. Perry mentioned he had caught the Dead & Co show the night before at the and mused about the band coming back next year and doing a show or shows there which met with thunderous applause.

Overall, it was an amazing night of music and nostalgia, which seems to be coming around with many reunited 90’s bands, as well as those still working and touring, and we need that. Will it last and they play The Sphere in future like Farrell suggested? We don’t know for sure given the band’s history, anything is possible… which is also part of their draw… that mysterious air of freedom, hedonism and yet caution…. but regardless of what transpired back when, we are going to enjoy what we saw tonight for as long as they keep it coming down the mountain…. and maybe… just hopefully… this won’t STOP!
