Legendary Performer Boy George Amazes The Theater Inside Virgin Hotel and Casino August 24

It’s 7:00pm outside The Theater at the Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas. People are making their way to the concert entrance donned in Culture Club and Boy George shirts, sequins, and an array of extraordinary hats. The doors just opened for “Hello Vegas: An Intimate Night with Me, Boy George.” As the seats began to fill, a DJ graced the stage and got the night going by playing 80’s hits. People were rising from their seats and dancing all over the venue as they were transported back to a bygone era of extravagant makeup and Aqua Net. As the clock neared 8pm, the anticipation began to swell as everyone was ready to bear witness to the legend himself, Boy George take to the stage.

The stage lights began to dim, and cheers bellowed from the crowd, the moment was near. The lights came up and band members made their way on stage laying the instrumental red carpet for Boy George. From behind the set, he walked up between the drummer and keyboardist and fans erupted in elation.

The theater was packed, and everyone was enraptured in the joy which emanated from the stage. From every musician on to Boy George himself, there was an atmosphere of happiness, and it was contagious.

The nearly two-hour set consisted of Culture Club hits such as the beloved “Karma Chameleon” as well as songs from his solo career. Speckled in the mix were some covers, one of which being Prince’s “Purple Rain”. Upon deciding what songs seemed best to play for a Vegas set, he decided “How to be a Chandelier” was the most fitting as he wrote it about Liberace.

“I can hear the lights in Vegas screaming Liberace” …  I can still hear Las Vegas screaming their love for Boy George.

Mary is a concert and event photographer. Born and raised just outside the Mile High City, her photography career (Spooky Shutter) began in Denver, Colorado. While growing up, her family exposed her to all genres of music, and it became a staple in her life. Coincidingly, her mother was very much into photography. Mary picked up her first camera at four years old and her parents embraced her natural talent. To this day she credits her love of music and photography to her family. She is passionate about capturing the raw energy, passion, and connections with fans during live shows, describing it as “art capturing art”. While she now calls Sin City home, she travels back to Denver and across the country to shoot shows and events wherever she is needed. Photography is her staple, but when she’s not shooting, she can be found spending time with her family (including her “army of animals”), writing, playing music, crafting oddities, doing animal advocacy work, or working on her hearse with her husband.
