March 14, 2025 – The “Duke of Spook,” Wednesday 13, is back at Vamp’d, kicking off the first night of their There’s No Such Thing as Monsters tour at Las Vegas’ own Vamp’d. This tour is insanely special because it’s not only celebrating the 20th anniversary of Wednesday 13’s debut album Transylvania 90210, but also paying tribute to some of Wednesday’s early works.
Kicking off the show with a powerful start was Polish-American artist I Ya Toyah. I didn’t catch her full set, but from what I heard and everything I’ve seen since, she absolutely delivered. Her sound blends dark wave, pop, rock, and industrial in a way that’s totally her own. If you haven’t checked her out yet, start with “Crashing Comet,” “Drama,” and “Denial.” You won’t be disappointed.
Arizona’s own metalcore crew, The Dead Rabbitts, stormed the stage next. Founded in 2011 by Craig Mabbitt of Escape the Fate, the band now features Craig on vocals, Erik Jensen on guitar, Blake Bailey on drums, and Colten Westerman on bass.
Their set was dark, intense, and theatrical—the rabbit mask alone set the tone. One of the highlights? They brought out Mixi from Stitched Up Heart to rip through “Hellscape,” and their chemistry was wild. They also crushed “Mistake,” “Deer in the Headlights,” and “Oxygen,” keeping the energy high and the crowd all in.
Besides Wednesday 13, the band I was most excited to see was Stitched Up Heart. I hadn’t caught a Stitched show since 2014, so this was long overdue and they did not disappoint.
As soon as they hit the stage, they took over. Fronted by Alecia “Mixi” Demner (SLAY QUEEN), the Los Angeles-based lineup also includes James Decker on drums, Merritt Goodwin on guitar, and Randy Mathias on bass. They’re out on Wednesday 13’s There’s No Such Thing As Monsters tour, and they fit the vibe like they were made for it.
Mixi’s vocals were an absolute powerhouse as usual: raw, emotional, and commanding while the band delivered heavy riffs and nonstop energy that had the crowd locked in from the first note. They nail that perfect balance between heavy and melodic. If you haven’t seen them, here’s some songs they played that you have to check out: “Possess Me,” “Monster,” and “To the Wolves.” Well, what are you waiting for?
Up next was Wednesday 13, and it was my first time seeing him live, so I was stoked. Wednesday (Joseph Poole) and his band: Roman Surman and Jack Tankersley on guitars, Troy Doebbler on bass, and Mike Dupke on drums, brought the energy.
This tour celebrates the 20th anniversary of Transylvania 90210, so the setlist had all the classics like “I Walked with a Zombie,” “Bad Things,” and “Look What the Bats Dragged In.” They also gave us a taste of new music from the upcoming album Mid Death Crisis.
But the real treat came during the encore. He threw in some tracks from his earlier days with The Murderdolls, and honestly, I needed that. Inner teen me was flipping out. It was the perfect blend of nostalgia and what’s next for the band. If you’re a fan, don’t miss this tour.
Wednesday 13 is due to release new music in April 2025 and has a bunch of tour dates left, since we were the lucky city he kicked off with.
