Baby and the Nobodies Release “Ready or Not”

Hailing from Seattle, WA, Baby and the Nobodies have released their third album Ready or Not. This 8 track album, recorded at the legendary London Bridge Studio has a little something for everyone. Vocalist Rebecca Terry brings a kind of Chrissy Hynde meets Pat Benatar feel in her melody lines, matching over the guitars of Rev James and Tyler Sweet. Rounding out the band and holding down the various time changes are bassist Kenny James and Dana Sims.

The opening track of “Bombs Away”, a song about a failed relationship, feels like the end of the school year. I don’t know how else to describe it. You’re off to college and cutting off ties, and you’re pissed but you’re stoked to come into your own. “Kings and Queens” has a familiar feel to it as well, almost like Social Distortion meets Ramones. It’s catchy, with great backing vocals and a good hook to it.

Personally, “Here I Am” is my favorite track on Ready or Not. I really love the way the song breathes. It isn’t overly busy, but lyrically it oozes self-confidence, and I dig it. This is the kind of song you put on when you are getting ready to go out for the night. Being in a band myself, this may be my new before going on stage, hype song.

Closing it all out is the softer “Back to Start”, with strings and a duo lead vocal. The ballad itself holds up with any other rock n roll ballad out there, and it’s mixed beautifully, allowing each part to be showcased. I’d suggest listening to this one through headphones so you can ensure nothing is lost.

I’ve seen the band classified as pop-punk and glam-punk, but I really get hints of blues and rock n roll as well. Obviously, there’s a punk element and some glam in there too, but I’d expect nothing less from a Seattle band; as most artists from the area have some deep influences from all genres. If I had to put money on it, I’d say someone in this band loves Cinderella and Aerosmith, because I definitely get that blues vibe hard.

Overall, it’s hard to say who this album would be best suited for. I think it touches a little bit of everything, and there’s something in here for you no matter who you are. Give Baby and the Nobodies some time, and give the record a fair listen. 4/5 for me!

Stephy’s first concert at the tender age of 8 was Rob Zombie at the original Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, where she happily threw horns up and sang along to "Dragula" with the best of them ( she incidentally loves horror films too!) . She performed with the VGA choir at the 2007 Video Game Awards show at Mandalay Bay when it was hosted by Samuel L Jackson, sharing the stage with the likes of Foo Fighters as well as Kid Rock. An LVA alum, when she isn’t singing or playing herself (she plays a few different instruments), she is out in support of the local scene and at her friends gigs around the southwest and even when she is back home in Illinois! She has written as well as done some photography previously for a couple of smaller zines including Vegas SoundZ when it was in print. Stephy takes the adage of ” If it’s too loud that is just too damn bad! ” to heart- after all- she was raised around screaming guitars, thunderous drums, production studios and only Led Zeppelin and Nirvana played extremely loud would put her to sleep as a kid! Stephy is a large part of the backbone of ZRockR.
