Lamb of God released its first new music in roughly three years this week.
The new music came Thursday in the form of the band’s new single, ‘Sepsis.’ The song was accompanied by a companion video. The song’s musical arrangement is a distinct change of style for the band, as instead of its familiar up-tempo groove metal compositions, this song exhibits more of a doom metal lean with some groove metal in the bridge. It is definitely a work that is sure to engage and entertain audiences.
Guitarist Mark Morton talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.
“’Sepsis’ is a celebration of the very underground local bands here in Richmond that we really admired when we were just forming Burn the Priest,” said Morton. “Bands like Breadwinner, Sliang Laos, and Ladyfinger—though they never got widespread attention outside of Richmond, those were the bands we listened to all the time. The song references that stuff in a way that’s a direct line to where we were coming from when we were in the basement writing our earliest material together.”
The song’s companion video is a DIY style presentation in the vein of found footage flicks that also includes a rough, basement type setup for the band as the song plays over the visualization.
