February 16, 2026 – Opeth – undeniably influential, widely beloved, visionary masters, technical geniuses, arguably Sweden’s finest musical export – have returned to San Antonio, Texas, after being away for thirteen long, cold years. The progressive metal band last stopped in the Alamo City in April of 2012, marking nearly 14 years since they last stopped by (Fun fact, that was on the Heritage Hunter Tour where the band co-headlined alongside Mastodon. And the opening band? Oh, you know, just a tiny little up-and-coming band by the name of GHOST). Needless to say, South Texas-based fans of the band have been foaming at the mouth to get ahold of even a mere glimpse of their incredible live performance power. The band stopped by the Majestic Theatre along their “Last Will and Testament – North America Tour Pt. 2” and ZRockR was there for the whole show.

This past Monday night, the Majestic Theatre in downtown San Antonio was packed with fans of all ages, demographics, and even musical backgrounds. I saw shirts from Tool, Whitechapel, Crowbar, Dark Funeral, Acacia Strain, Saxon, almost every possible metal subgenre lover was there on that night in celebration of the grand sonic display that was Opeth. Fellow Swedish melodic metal act, Katatonia, opened the night with an emotional, foggy, and sincere setlist that was full of old favorites and new tracks from their latest album, “Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State”. The set opened with “Thrice”, a new favorite of mine, and slowly took us through the highs of their discography. I mean, check out this set list!

  3. The Liquid Eye

With more than three decades of musicianship, performance experience, and experimentation under their belts, Opeth’s Last Will and Testament North American Tour exploded onto the stage under an incredible setlist that found a perfect blend between new and old, melodic and aggressive, a culmination of some of the band’s greatest achievements. Celebrating their 14th studio album, “The Last Will and Testament”, the band punctuated their setlist with conceptual songs about death, inheritance, grief, and the dark side of family. I saw more than one teary eyed reaction to Opeth’s gorgeous ballads, from “Devil’s Orchards”, to
“Deliverance”, it was a perfect night beneath the ornaments of the Majestic Theatre. I mean look
