Dirty Ratt – Wanted Men on the Tuscany’s Copa Room Stage!

The Tuscany continues to deliver when it comes to bringing weekly rock and roll entertainment to headbangers in Las Vegas! The closure of Count’s Vamp’d last June has left many music fans in Sin City looking for a new spot to call their own, and so far, no one else has done more for the post-Vamp’d rock and metal scene in terms of weekend offerings. As always, thanks to Mike, Brian, Mitch, Grayson, and everyone else at the Tuscany who continues to deliver the goods in the Copa Room (again, this venue is not to be confused with the similarly-named venue at the Bootlegger restaurant).

Ratt was one of the biggest bands of the 80s Sunset Strip glam scene, and it’s no surprise their songs are often covered by bands who want to pay homage to that era. These days, Vegas is fortunate enough to have a full-on Ratt tribute band: Dirty Ratt! I’d seen these guys at Vamp’d probably twice before that venue closed down, and was ecstatic to see they’ve be among the latest to rock the Tuscany’s Copa Room.

Dirty Ratt combines several of Vegas’ top players, with a lineup that includes vocalist Tate Thibodeaux, guitarist Chris Miggiani, guitarist Alan Woratschek, bassist Keith Trombino, and drummer Mike Mitlyng. I’m certainly no stranger to the other bands these guys have done over the years, perhaps most notably Miggiani as the founder/one remaining original member in the long-running Aces High Iron Maiden tribute band.

It’s easy to forget just how many hit songs and albums Ratt had in their original tenure together, which lasted until about 1992. For this evening, Dirty Ratt assembled a setlist of songs that ranged from the band’s self-titled 1983 EP, represented with the cut “You Think You’re Tough,” up to a track the band recorded for their final “classic era” album, 1990’s DETONATOR, “Lovin’ You’s a Dirty Job.” Many of the hits were represented here, including “Round and Round,” “Wanted Man,” “Lay it Down,” “You’re in Love,” and even “Body Talk,” complete with audio snippets from the classic Eddie Murphy film THE GOLDEN CHILD, in which that song was featured in a pivotal sequence. Also, many, many thanks to the band for playing one long set instead of two shorter ones; the later start times at the Tuscany make this the better option.

In addition to having a great chemistry together, Dirty Ratt scores major points for digging deeper into the band’s back catalogue than just the hits. Tunes like “What You See is What You Get,” “In Your Direction,” and “Eat Me Up Alive” got glorious new life on this evening at the Tuscany’s Copa Room. The band knows how to keep these tunes alive, with vocalist Thibodeaux beautifully capturing the voice and look of a young Stephen Pearcy. I’ve seen actual Ratt members perform these songs over the past decade and a half with mixed results, but Dirty Ratt is, thankfully, the real deal.

Dirty Ratt transformed the Tuscany’s Copa Room into that could easily have been a show in a Sunset Strip venue circa 1984, and no one in this audience of headbangers was disappointed. I’m especially eager to see what gems from the catalogue, hits and deep cuts alike, they choose to pull out for their next performance. Don’t pass these guys up if the glam and sleaze of the Decade of Decadence are up your alley.
