March 24, 2026 – Every so often, we’re given the opportunity to check out something new, something fresh. UNITYTX was that something this time around. I was sent out to check out their set opening up for Varials at Backstage Bar & Billiards, and goddamn… It’s been a long time since I’ve heard something that blended so many elements that sounded so cool.
Most people who know me know this… but my music taste hasn’t ever been restricted by genre. I can quite literally find songs from every genre in existence that I can bob my head to. UNITYTX had me feeling some kind of way, though. It was almost similar to the first time I heard Linkin Park as a kid, when I had never heard anyone use guttural vocals before. Lay in the hip hop elements and it’s a sensory overload that hits in all the right ways. *cue mini explosion above my adolescent head*
I’ve heard a lot of really great music coming out of Texas lately. UNITYTX hail from Dallas, (My mother is from Dallas so maybe that adds to my feelings here a bit.) There’s definitely something in the water down there, the extra swagger that seeps its way into these artists’ creative process is out of this world. You may not think much of it if you’re just hearing the name by itself, but UNITYTX masterfully combines elements of modern hip hop, maybe some trap/house, nu-metal, and downtuned breakdowns that are often heard in hardcore/deathcore. Now… this may not be everyone’s cup of tea or shot of whisky, but for me? I love this shit.
In the live setting, UNITYTX commands the attention of the room, and if they told you to move, you better get fucking moving! Triple B’s has a good size floor for the pit, but it’s almost always confined to the very center of the room, mainly because if it spreads any further you’re gonna slam into pillars and a pool table. I know I’ve mentioned this before in other pieces that mention hardcore bands or hardcore adjacent bands, but the fans always show up and throw down. It was a fucking Tuesday evening and these people showed up and showed out, which I anticipated, and is part of the reason I was so excited to come out for this one.
Overall feelings this set left me with? Pleasure. It’s very clear that UNITYTX embraces their own multidimensional-ness, and I am here for it. I would absolutely consider them a benchmark for what the next wave of nu-metal/deathcore should be and embrace.
UNITYTX released a new record on March 13th, titled “Somewhere, In Between…” and after the first spin, I started the album over. I cannot mention enough just how diverse and varied the elements in this release are. It also is a bit of an ode to the hardcore scene in general, almost every person I know in the hardcore scene also is a fan of hip hop, so to blend these elements in this way, I can only imagine the die-hards are buzzing over it. I know I sure am! At any rate, the record is available everywhere you can stream music, and the guys will be on the road with Varials for a couple more weeks.
I encourage you all to go check out the new album, and definitely go see them live because they are SO FUN. I am definitely a fan, and I hope to see them come back to Vegas soon!
