Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies – Just Give Us The Residency Already

Not too long ago we rocked out at Brooklyn Bowl with Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, The Black Tones and Josie Cotton, but you wouldn’t know that based on the crowd size here tonight. Brooklyn Bowl was packed to the smoking patio for this Punk Rock spectacle on a beautiful Saturday in Vegas, and when it comes to a party in this desert, “Nobody Does It Better” than the greatest cover band on Earth.

Spike and the boys are back for another night of dancing and anthem singalongs, and this time with the energetic Schizophonics, who blew us away at Punk Rock Bowling a few years ago. They’re an act that I can describe as Barry Gibb in his prime, playing punk rock and channeling Little Richard’s persona. It’s a glorious thing to witness from the entire band.

Besides the obvious excitement of The Gimmies being in Vegas, it was a special occasion with Madison’s Quinceañera being celebrated on the latest album. The already magically filled setlist the band can choose from now has Chicano anthems from Vicente Fernandez that can be flawlessly executed by some of the whitest people I’ve ever seen. You’ll love every second of the songs and Spike’s hilarious commentary before and after.

It wouldn’t be Gimmies set without a tribute to “a great pilot and a great man” with “Country Roads”, or one of the sickest bass intros in existence played by CJ Ramone for, of all things, Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up”. We were also graced by their classics, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “I Will Survive”, that can always, again and again, be hilariously presented to us by Spike with, “this next one is a cover”.

The capper with the iconic “End of the Road” by Boys II Men is a fitting ending for Vegas right now, but we know this isn’t the end of their road by any means. Between their regular appearance at Punk Rock Bowling, these last two shows within 10 months of each other, were getting the hint guys, and we’re ready.
