Mk.gee brought the damn best energy to House of Blues Dallas, TX on 9/15. He is one of those artists that you get lucky when you catch them early in their career. Working with artists like Omar Apollo and The Kid Laroi with a potential Justin Bieber collaboration in the works, my guy is killing it!

Opening the evening was DJ SEES00000 who played a sick set that got the crowd all riled up. His tunes gave me the feeling of chilling on Venice Beach with a doobie after sunset. Super chill dude–be sure to check him out!

Mk.gee came out shortly after with bandmates Andrew Aged on guitar and Zack Sekoff on keys, bass and percussion. The band got a vibey start with title track to Mk.gee’s third and most recent album “Dream Police” followed by a personal favorite,“How Many Miles,” and “You Got It.” The alt-rocker lit up the stage when he and his band pulled out “Candy” and the audience went wild! During the bridge, Mk.gee handed his guitar to Zayn at the barricade who crushed it for the end of the song.

Switching gears and moods, Mk.gee performed his newest recently released single “Lonely Fight” which had the girl next to me in absolute shambles. The lighting changed from black and white to a deep red coloration that was fitting for the track. A few more tracks from Dream Police followed–“Little Bit More,” “cz” went crazy, “New Low,” “I Want,” and “Rylee & I.” The alt-indie rocker performed killer track “DNM” not once, but thrice!

After the first go around, the crowd cheered for an encore and Mk.gee happily obliged then followed up with a moody yet vibey “Break the Spell.” The moment I looked the most forward to came next when Mk.gee and his band played “Are You Looking Up” with an insanely cool outro-an incredible banger that I would encourage you to listen to if you aren’t already listening.

After doing the goofy thing artists do when they pretend the show is over for a few minutes, Mk.gee and band came back out for the third round of “DNM”, and the audience ate it up. Closing out the set with “Alesis”(literal genius song- wow) and final round of “Candy,” energy in the pit was ridiculously infectious!

Mk.gee has a sort of artistry and production style that is rare and vividly unmatched. This is not an artist to be slept on. Go stream Dream Police and catchMk.gee at an upcoming tour date in the US through 10/5 and in Europe and Australia 10/29 through 12/8.

*** Editors Note: Jessica went to the show and was not scheduled to cover it, but, she had bought a ticket to go see it just the same because that is what we do when we aren’t covering shows! We still go to shows to see our favorite acts OR we perform music ourselves… ANYWAY… She took photos with her cell phone and after getting home and looking at her personal pictures and reliving the night listening to the music, she sat down and sent us this review. As a fan of Mk.gee myself, how could I say no? The dude deserves LOTS of press- and yes, he is really THAT good. So thank you to Jessica for the fan review of the show and some great phone pics! I wish mine turned out so well on my stupid iPhone. and definitely go see Mk.Gee and listen to his music- he really is phenomenal. – S
