The Front Bottoms – Finding Your Way Home at HOBLV

November 21, 2024 – The Front Bottoms brought their signature blend of witty lyricism and energetic indie-pop to the House of Blues, and we were nothing short of stoked for this one! Fans who waited in the (very) long line and filled the venue were treated to a night of raw energy as The Front Bottoms delivered a set that was powerful and engaging, leaving us all saying “That was pretty freakin sick.”

Hailing from Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, the duo consists of vocalist/guitarist Brian Sella and drummer Mat Uychich. Forming in 2006, the guy’s breakout came in 2011 with the release of their self titled album. Sella’s unique vocal style made for an awesome sound dynamic in their music, becoming very infectious and helping the band amass over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Over the years, The Front Bottoms have been no stranger to big tours and sellout crowds, and tonight was no different.

From the opening chords of “Raining” the tone was set, as the crowd erupted into roars. The audience response to every song was amazing to see, as everyone was 100% enthralled in the set and sang along to every word. Sella’s vocals tore through the venue while drummer Uychich laid down a steady foundation while keeping up immense energy. Touring musicians for this run included guitarist and backing vocalist Erik Kase Romero, multi-instrumentalist Roshane Karunaratne, and bassist Natalie Newbold. This was hands down one of the most talented groups of musicians I’ve seen share a stage, as each member delivered a performance that was tight, thorough, and engaging.

The Front Bottoms’ live shows have always been known more as intimate, quirky family gatherings where everyone feels like they know each other. The band even held a costume contest, in which fans dressed up and competed to take home the grand prize of $20! It was a hotdog and a wizard that ended up splitting the prize, and in fitting fashion, the band played the Family Fued theme song as the contestants collected their winnings.

The stage design was so simple yet SO cool. Each member was surrounded by an arrangement of single-standing lightbulbs that slowly and softly illuminated beautiful colors and made the atmosphere that much more intimate. You know this wouldn’t be an Addison review without me raving about the lighting design, so here we are – IMPECCABLE lighting design for this one. The big lights were perfect accents and highlights to the simplicity of the lightbulbs, and created soft and muted blue tones to make for a nice and soothing atmosphere.

The Front Bottoms put together an impressive setlist that was a true testament to their eclectic collection of music. With every song even more engaging than the last, the crowd enjoyed classics such as ‘Father’ and ‘Lone Star’ as they sang their hearts out into the night.  We were also treated to a multi-song encore that closed out with their biggest hit ‘Twin Sized Mattress’ and had us buzzing from what we just experienced.

The Front Bottoms are set to finish off this second leg of the “Finding Your Way Home” tour across the US, with their final stop in their hometown of New Jersey. We’ve seen these guys play Vegas many times over the years and couldn’t be more ready to have them back!
