Have you been to a concert where you were expecting something like the early 80s hair metal scene, with band members wearing spandex and bandanas on their heads? But instead of these things, it was something more fun, and at the same time, you enjoyed the music.
We’ll i was lucky enough to capture Steel Panther’s wild show at Irving Plaza in New York City on October 28, and it was an unforgettable night. As the only photographer, I had a front-row seat to the debauchery. Despite being a bit uncomfortable, I owned the photo pit and got some amazing shots. The band came out dressed in their signature 80s-inspired outfits, and they didn’t hold back. They brought an Asian fan onstage to dance to “Asian Hooker” and even gave her a few dance lessons. The crowd was in stitches the whole time.
The band’s sense of humor and willingness to get ridiculous was on full display throughout the night. Each member of the band even sang a song to a lucky fan they brought onstage. But the highlight of the show had to be when they brought all the women onstage during one of their tracks—it was like one giant party. The energy was electric, and the crowd was loving every minute of it. I was having a blast capturing the chaos from the photo pit.
As the night drew to a close, Steel Panther was still having the time of their lives, throwing a cowboy hat into the crowd and high-fiving fans. The band was having just as much fun as the audience; it’s like they could put on a stand-up comedy show. If you’re a fan of humor, hooks, and rock ‘n’ roll, Steel Panther is a must-see live.
