FLYCATCHER – Flycatcher from New Jersey, now this is a band that is only participating in the first leg of the tour from October 09 to October 24. Great blend of indie, emo, punk and 90’s alternative. I have not heard of this band prior to seeing them live at the House of Blues but I am so glad to have witness their set while taking their photos. This is arguably the smallest band on the bill with big hearts, and even bigger sound. I spun their music on Spotify shortly after the show and quickly found myself adding their songs to my playlist, notably “Fault Line”, “Truth” and “Dissolve” from their 2025 record “Wrench”.
CARLY COSGROVE – Okay yes, the band’s name is a mix of the character Carly Shay from iCarly who’s portrayed by actress Miranda Cosgrove. Honestly, it’s genius, fun and it works. I think what levels up this band even further is the fact that some of their songs are references to the show itself, how many bands do you know have pulled something off like this and are now playing big stages? I’ve been a huge fan of their work since discovering the song “Here’s A Fork” from their 2024 record “The Cleanest Of Houses Are Empty”. Excellent use of lyricism in that song and it just lives in my head rent free.
MICROWAVE – Interestingly enough, this is a band that’s been through Las Vegas a couple times and I just never checked them out, but it’s safe to say after seeing them live for the first time it pushed me to listen to their music. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia their usage of grunge, emo and alternative is so much fun. I find it incredibly difficult to try to describe their guitar work it’s catchy, groovy but calm? Does that make sense? No? Just me then, but I mean that in a really good way. Their 2016 record “Much Love” caught my attention because of the artwork is pretty much a photo of the band and they’re infectious with huge smiles.
FREE THROW – I’m two beers in while I was taking these photos, alright well that was a short-lived joke and in reference to their song “Two Beers In” from their 2014 record “These Days Are Gone”. It hasn’t even been three songs in and we already have people crowd surfing, that’s the kind of energy you love to see at a Free Throw show. Oh yeah and they were definitely two beers in. No, it’s not my favorite song from them it’s actually “Tongue Tied”. I think one of my favorite aspects of this band is the back and forth vocal exchanges between the lead vocalist and guitarist. I’m no musician but even someone like me knows that it is incredibly difficult to get that technique and choreograph down. By the way, this band loves Las Vegas, the last time they were here was also at the House of Blues back in December on the 6th supporting Silverstein with Thursday and Bloom.
Hey thanks for checking out this article, make sure to catch them on tour if you can.
Thanks
Chris
