It’s been a weird year for me. I feel like I have been so go, go, go in so many things with the day gig, personal life, and my own band, that I haven’t been able to actually go out and enjoy a show at all this year, let alone with my trusty camera in my hands. The only show I’ve done this entire year was back in June, and prior to that was maybe Riot Fest 2025. Clearly, I need to get back out there.
Walking back into the House of Blues here in Vegas, a venue I’ve been frequenting for gigs since 2003 kind of felt like going back home in a way and getting back into that photo pit even more so. As I descended the stairs into the main venue, one of the openers, Hunny, had just taken to the stage about ten minutes prior. They were playing “Televised”, a song I actually enjoy quite a bit. They put on a really great set, and I look forward to catching them next time they come back around, but they weren’t who I was there for.
I had heard Dead Poet Society a while back, but I’d never had the opportunity to see them, until October 24, 2026. The band formed in 2013 in Boston, and boy did Boston show Vegas what they had to offer…

The lights in the venue went dark, and fog filled the room before a deep red took over the stage. The members of Dead Poet Society stepped on to the stage. The music was instantly a stark contrast to the upbeat indie sound of Hunny. Dead Poet Society broke into “Hollywood on Fire” off of their March 2026 release Monarch.
Vocalist/guitarist Jack Underkofler’s soft vocals contrasted the heavier sounds brought forth from the rest of the band (Jack Collins – guitar, Nick Taylor – bass, and Will Goodroad – drums) throughout the band’s set, and though he had to remain in place at the microphone, when he was not singing, he was moving around the stage with the rest of the band. Each member had a way of engaging with the crowd, and the entire audience was responsive to the band. The energy between the two was palpable.
The band continued into “Roach” and “Cold”, both of which are also off of Monarch. Regardless of only having three full length LPs, the band has a handful of EPs, and Dead Poet Society mixed up their set quite well with songs off of 2024’s Fission such as “I Hope You Hate Me.” and the closer “HURT”, as well as 2021’s -!- with “.Intoodeep.” and “.CoDA.” The real treat of the evening was a nice little cover of Muse’s “Time is Running Out”.
Overall, the evening with Dead Poet Society was exactly what I needed to get excited about going to shows with my camera again, and they are a band I look forward to diving into further and hopefully seeing again.
They are currently on a co-headlining tour with Honey Revenge with support from the aforementioned Hunny and Broadside. If you’re looking for something new that is a bit soft with an edge, this is the tour to have on your radar this Autumn. The tour will be wrapping up on December 20th at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA, and you can find the full list of dates and ticketing information on Dead Poet Society’s website here.
