August second GOJIRA is scheduled to headline the House of Blues, Las Vegas. As a special treat, they popped on local metal heavyweights, HEMLOCK. Both of these bands have an extensive history going on two decades playing metal music for the masses. It’s a show you definitely don’t want to miss!

Hemlock

If you need a history lesson on our local guys in HEMLOCK, well… You shouldn’t honestly. Those guys have played and toured with some of the biggest names in metal throughout the years. Lamb of God, Slayer, and Meshuggah just to name a few for you. Despite their successful tour and show runs with these big names, they’ve still managed to remain a humble staple of our heavy metal scene here in the Vegas Valley. They’re honestly some of the coolest guys you’d meet out here. We are honestly really excited to see them perform again. This time on a big stage! The last time we caught them they headlined an anniversary tour at The Dive Bar and it was ROWDY you guys. Be prepared! These guys come in, and they come in hard!

(Hemlock will also be headlining another show on August 23 at Backstage Bar downtown with opening acts, Nebula X, Mastiv, and Anti-Trust. So if you like what you hear, you should definitely be hitting that show too!)

Gojira

It’s been a couple years since Gojira hit a Las Vegas stage. Psycho Las Vegas 2017 to be exact. We remember seeing that lineup and being in awe, we would have loved to have been able to catch them on such a huge lineup. However, there’s something a bit more special with an actual headliner show in bit of a smaller venue. (Not that House of Blues is small, it’s just smaller than where Psycho 2017 was).

We are just as, if not more excited to see Gojira headline one of our long time favorite venues on this run. This Vegas date of August 2, 2019 is one of THREE… count em. THREE shows that Gojira is playing on this run. According to a post on their Facebook, Portland is sold out, and tickets for the Vegas and Minneapolis dates are low. Clearly, these three shows are a big deal!

Don’t know who Gojira is and why they’re so popular in their niche of the metal scene? No worries. We got you.

Gojira started up in 1996 under the name Godzilla. They renamed themselves to the Gojira name a number of years later in 2001. GOJIRA is currently, Joe Duplantier: Guitar, Vocals; Mario Duplantier: Drums; Christian Andreu: Guitar; and Jean-Michel Labadie: Bass. You probably won’t ever not hear me talk about how much I love consistency within bands. This has been a sound line up since 2001 when the band started under the name as Gojira. Kudos, guys. Kudos.

Check out some more tunes from GOJIRA!

The band originates from France, and are widely known for their lyrical content relating to life, death, spiritually, and ecology. They have a specialty in the blending of death metal, progressive metal, and groove metal. The guys have taken the groundworks for those genres and create something that is so unique, it really stands out. They are not your typical cookie cutter metal band by any means.

Some major credit given!

Since emerging on the scene under the Gojira name, they have released 6 full length albums! The most recent one being MAGMA, in 2016. That album received Grammy nominations for Best Rock Album, and Best Metal Performance for the song, ‘Silvera.’  I’ve never cared too much for how the Grammy’s portray metal acts and musicians, however I know this is a big deal for bands to receive this kind of recognition. If one this for sure, they damn well do deserve that recognition and we are proud of them for getting it!

Excited enough yet!? We are. We love this band, and we can’t wait to see you guys out on the House of Blues floor!
