On the Vegas music scene, Aaron Archer is still going strong. I’ve covered his material on here before, and he’s still finding new and interesting ways to innovate musically; not an easy thing to do when you consider how many musicians live here in Sin City!

February 3rd, 2022, sees the release of a pair of new singles from Mr. Archer – “Ache Anyway,” released under his own name, and “Steppin’ Out,” released under the Fremont Singles Club name, which is the moniker used for Archer’s collaborative efforts.

“Ache Anyway,” the first of these two singles and the one released directly under the Aaron Archer name, is a fantastic addition to his steadily-growing discography. The track’s distorted instrumentation, including the guitar work, bring to mind the classic 90s alternative rock/grunge movement, whereas the vocals take on a sort of David Bowie-esque quality, giving the track some much-needed levity above other attempts at this style. In terms of alternative sounds, it’s truly the best of both worlds and eras.

The Fremont Singles Club release, “Steppin’ Out” (not a cover of the Joe Jackson song of the same name), features The Seams’ Sara Jean Worrell on vocals and The Laissez Fairs’ Joe Lawless on keyboards, with Archer providing the other instrumentation. Honestly, this release isn’t as far removed from “Ache Anyway” as I would’ve initially thought, though the female vocals give it a distinct sound all its own, and as usual, the instrumental work, included the key work from Lawless, is superb.

In this day and age it’s more important than ever to support local artists and music, and it’s great to get some more music from Aaron Archer. This pair of single releases reflects well on both his individual and collaborative talents, beautifully demonstrating some solid musical progression and fantastic alternative-flavored rock tunes. Give them a listen!
