February 5, 2025 – The incredibly talented South African born folk singer-songwriter sat down with his guitar in a sold-out Majestic Theatre for an unforgettable evening. Lights were dim, the audience were sat and fully attuned to each song as they graciously listened to the set. By the way, when I say “lights were dim” I mean you could hardly see the man–he seems to be found of the dark, moody aesthetic when it comes to his shows and on his socials (@gregoryalanisakov on Instagram).
Gregory Alan Isakov has been releasing music since 2005, starting with his debut album, “Songs for October” and releasing an impressive six more albums along with multiple ep’s and singles. Heeven landeda feature on one of Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” deluxe edition singles, Paul Revere, in 2024. Suffice to say, Gregory has made quite the mark in the indie-folk scene over the years. Most of the set was a solo performance by Isakov while he played songs from all over his discography, mostly songs from his 2023 album “Appaloosa Bones.” He was also joined on stage by Steve Varney, also known as Kid Reverie, and his brother Ilan. Varney played the banjo and sangalong during my most anticipated songs, San Luis and The Stable Song.
Gregory ended the set with a gorgeous rendition of Iron & Wine’s The Trapeze Swinger from their 2009 album “Around the Well.” Gregory Alan Isakov will continue touring North America through mid-April. He has sold out almost every show but, there are still a few chances to catch him on the road–www.gregoryalanisakov.com/tourto find tickets in your city.
