Param-Nesia hails from Vancouver, BC and they just recently released their track, ‘Pestilence of Man!’ While these guys are a new name for me personally, musically they draw from a lot of metal that I’m particularly fond of. Naturally I was excited that I was sent this track to review.

Who are Param-Nesia?

Cayle Charlton – Vocals
Andy Cahalin – Guitar
Matt Burnham – Guitar
Derek Hill – Drums
TBD – Bass

Here’s a littlesnippet from the band’s bio on their official Facebook Page!

Param-Nesia is currently a 4 piece metal band hailing from Vancouver, BC. Their sound combines melodic death metal, thrash and hints of prog to create music that takes you on a journey from beginning to end. Param-Nesia, meaning; “distorted memory or inability to distinguish fact from fantasy” resonated well with the visceral sound and stories of the music, weaving emotions and experiences together with imagination and storytelling.
The band was originally formed in 2016 by lead guitarist Andy Cahalin and drummer Derek Hill, and remained a 2 piece while on the search to complete the line up.
After solidifying the role of Vocalist, Cayle Charlton joined forces with his years of experience in the music industry & his powerful presence and sound.

I was surprised to see that these guys only have a little more than 1,000 followers on Facebook; as they definitely have a pretty good presentation as well as interesting and eye grabbing live photography and band graphics. (Props to them for having these things. They are important, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a photographer and visual artist myself!)

Onto the track! I felt like the intro might have not been completely necessary for this song; but it does give a little bit of a build before hitting you right in the face. The band classifies themselves as Melodic Death/Thrash Metal, and I can definitely hear pieces of that with their sound in this release. Maybe because I dig metalcore, I can hear bits of that as well; but it’s likely more of an At the Gates kind of feel, since that’s where most metalcore draws from anyway. The vocalist definitely has some The Black Dahlia Murder ish kind of vocals so I definitely dig that; and the other musical elements defintely pull together for a bit of a unique take on modern death/thrash metal.

Eager to see Param-Nesia’s progression into the future!

I will not give number ratings for this, because I kind of think those are bullshit. However, I think this is a great follow up release for these guys; and I would love to hear what they have in store for their next full length EP. (According to the bands, this is due out THIS SUMMER! I’ll be waiting…) It would also be bitchin to sit down with them one day and discuss their groundwork influences!

Check out Param-Nesia’s first EP too!
