80s Things – A Trip Back in Time at the Tuscany Copa Room!

80s Things played the Tuscany Hotel and Casino’s Copa Room on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Leave it to the good people at the Tuscany to continue bringing live music to the masses! Following last year’s closure of Count’s Vamp’d, this is the spot that largely “picked up the slack” and inherited many of the shows that would’ve been at that former house of rock. Thanks as always to Mitch, Grayson, Mike, Brian, and everyone here who keeps live music on stage alive.

80s Things was one of the latest bands to play the Tuscany’s Copa Room. While most of the shows I go to here in Vegas are classic rock, hard rock, and heavy metal shows, the prospect of going to see a band covering various hits of the 80s spanning multiple genres sounded like a promising evening. I definitely have a soft spot for this era of music, even if it’s less pronounced with me than the more “obvious” ones.

The venue drew in a surprisingly large crowd for the evening; it’s always great to see there are still people who’ll come out and support live music. Right from the get go, I was surprised by just how many members were in the band. In addition to the standard personnel you’d expect from a live band (guitar, bass, drums, etc.) they also had a keyboardist, a keytar player, and on some tracks, even a trombone player! I was also pleasantly surprised to see that half of the band was female! It was a great, diverse group of musicians, and as I quickly discovered, a group that was a lot of fun. The beach balls and boom boxes decorating the stage, complete with the band’s “entrance music” being an old school MTV promo (you know, back when that channel actually showed music videos).

It was a diverse setlist, covering a wide array of 80s favorites and genres. Cramming six people onto the relatively small Copa Room stage presented its own challenges, but it didn’t stop the sextet from delivering a high-energy show with the crowd enjoying every moment of it. The band members clearly had chemistry and a good sense of humor, even launching beach balls out into the crowd about halfway through the show. I also appreciate that the band played a continuous set rather than “breaking it up” and making the show go later than necessary (Friday shows at the Copa Room start quite late, so the single-set shows are always good).

I also loved the fact that the band didn’t simply copy the songs the way they were on their respective artists’ records. Some 80s songs are difficult to replicate in a live setting due to their overproduction, but this group clearly knew how to adapt them for the stage. Hearing Madonna’s “Borderline” with more of an emphasis on elements like guitar and drums breathed new life into it. Likewise, many of the songs were sped up and given additional horn sounds, giving them almost more of a ska/reggae feel, which actually proved to be beneficial for the live club setting. The audience was clearly having a great time. Myself included.

This was my first time seeing 80s Things doing their thing on a live stage, and it won’t be the last. With so many songs, artists, and genres to choose from in the Decade of Decadence, there will be no shortage of tunes they can breathe new life into. If you’re like me and love all things 80s, an 80s Things concert should be in your future.
