On October 4, 2022, APOCALYPTICA will be coming to the Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. I was fortunate to see this band a few years back when they did their Metallica by Four Cellos set at The Smiths Center in Spring 2019. That was probably one of the coolest concerts I had ever gotten to witness… especially since I had only ever heard the record versions of those. The live versions are way better.
On this run, though they are due to play their own songs. With them they will be bringing WHEEL., a prog-metal band from Helinski; and LEPROUS, a Norwegian rock band from Notodden, Norway. Upon listening to these two picks for openers, I think there will definitely be some interesting energy in the building for this show. I’m definitely not a prog rock/prog metal nerd so I have no real opinions as of now. These are the sorts of bands that I rather see live, since their live shows tend to be a lot different than what I personally hear on records.
WHEEL.
LEPROUS
Apocalyptica
I definitely have been seeing a lot of Apocalyptica’s social media posts lately, and the guys seem to be very excited to get back out on the road for this run. The fans in the comment sections absolutely match this energy, too! Since I haven’t seen Apocalyptica play anything other than their renditions of Metallica covers, I naturally had to go check out what their set lists do look like outside of that. I have to say their sets look pretty varied within their catalogue and that’s not a bad thing at all! “Not Strong Enough” was one of the first times I even heard this band, and it looks like a regular in their live sets. “I Don’t Care” looks to be like another set regular as well. I also love that their closing songs are indeed, two Metallica covers, and one Sepultura cover. This makes my little thrash heart happy. I’m looking forward to possibly hearing those particular songs live again.
Recently Apocalyptica released a rendition of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. Check that out below! For those who are unaware, (unsure how you could be but it happens) Beethoven’s 5th Symphony is rightfully one of the most iconic themes ever written. This cover actually makes me think of other neo-classical influenced bands that I really love. (Exmortus mainly, and Children of Bodom, along with a plethora of artists who draw from classical music.)
Will you be out at Brooklyn Bowl to catch this prog-metal/neoclassical goodness? See you in the pit!
