As I clicked play to hear Wasting Time by Chemical Tribe I had no idea what to expect. While I know of the band, their music is all new to me and let me tell you, I loved every second of the song. By only a few seconds in my feet were already tapping in time with the beat. It is unbelievably catchy!
The song took me back to my high school years (1998-2002). While neither Wasting Time nor Chemical Tribe didn’t have a distinct reminiscence of any band in particular, the sound itself made me feel like I was driving around town blaring the radio and singing along with my friends while we all should have been in class. It genuinely felt like it was plucked from another time.
The lyrics themselves are catchy as well. So many times, I hear a new song, and it is clearly a breakup song or some other variation which is clearly defined. Wasting Time can be left up to so many interpretations and will likely strike a chord within everyone signaling a particular person or situation in their life past or present. I really love that it is not clearly defined and can be left up to every listener to find their own meaning.
There is a unique symbiosis which takes place in this song. To me, it’s story is distinctly about a relationship in peril, but it is fun. The lyrics are strong, and the music is equally so. I highly recommend giving it a listen. I just forewarn Chemical Tribe has created an earworm with this one and it will play in your head long after the song is over.
