We aren’t going to go into the whys and wherefores. We all know what is going on and we are a music zine not The New Yorker. We all have our own outlook on what is happening and have our own thoughts on it which we put out to people on a more personal level or on our social media if we choose to but not here. That being said sometimes you can’t just bury your head in the sand. A number of local music people took part in the marches both here and in LA depending where they were. Our photographer Cynthia was at the Henderson march and shared some photos with us to share with you good folks.
Just some thoughts… No matter what side of the aisle you may be on, music is a unifier and our democracy is worth standing up for. Musicians have been doing that for decades going back before John Lennon and Yoko Ono sang “Give Peace a Chance” in a hotel room in Montreal, before Helen Reddy walked thru a field and sang so eloquently “I Am Woman”, before Woodstock and Country Joe singing the “Fixin to Die Rag”… even back before Pete Seeger sang “Which Side Are You On” that Florence Reece wrote in 1931… or Woody Guthrie sang “All You Fascists Bound To Lose” in the 40’s or the troubadours who spread the word in medieval times about the evils of feudal lords and had the people applaud them loudly. Music is TRULY a unifying artform, we all know it! Seriously, how many of us in the 80’s sang Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” or Judas Priest’s “You Got Another Thing Coming” at the top of our voices along with the record and felt it in our bones and still will sing it loud and proud and still mean every word of it! Or even now standing up singing Stevie Nick’s “Lighthouse”, Megadeth’s “Symphony of Destruction” or “Peace Sells”, Taylor Swift’s “Calm Down”, Black Flag’s “Rise Above”, just about anything from Rage Against The Machine, Nine Inch Nails, “Head Like A Hole” or “The Hand That Feeds” or even “Survivalism”, or finally local favorites Crimson Riot’s “State of Despair” just for a short list?
Anyway- here is a look at the events of late morning 28, March in Henderson, Nevada. Thanks Cynthia for sharing the pics of the day! Stay safe everyone, look after your neighbors, friend, and families… and listen to the music.
