What do you think of when the term “Thrash Metal” is mentioned? Don’t tell me. I already know. We all know that for decades the term has largely been coined for The Big Four – Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. The genre goes much deeper and wider than just those four though. New Jersey’s OVERKILL has long been overlooked by their peers that they share the genre with.

On February 28 the East coast thrashers return to Brooklyn Bowl, Las Vegas with support from Exhoarder and Hydroform. (Take a look at the coverage of ours from the last time they were in Vegas HERE!)

The Openers:

Exhoarder is from New Orleans, Louisiana; and they are among the group of bands that embraced the groove metal that is sometimes found in thrash metal. Listening to them reminds me a lot of Pantera, which shouldn’t be too shocking of a thought, since Pantera made this style so popular in the first place. (Again for those who don’t know, Pantera is my favorite band.) Exhoarder is likely on this tour to promote their latest release, Mourn the Sky. This album is their first release in over two and a half decades. Let me tell you… it is INTENSE. (Go give it a listen! Or have a preview below!)

Hydraform on the other hand is probably the most versatile of the three on this bill. The Denver four piece incorporates a much more melodic sound with their music. They definitely have an interesting sound that I’m absolutely interested in seeing at this show.

Did you guys know that Overkill has NINETEEN studio albums!? Insane, right? From Feel the Fire released in 1985 to The Wings of War released in 2019, these guys just continue to pack a punch time and time again. This time around, they are supporting the latest album release; which explains the tour name: Wings Over the USA.

Expectation:

It’s not too hard to please me with these thrash metal bills, they don’t come to town as often as I would like, so I’m always excited to see bands like this hit my city. Overkill is one of my favorite underrated thrash metal bands; (For me, also add Testament, Exodus, and Death Angel to that list… people just do not talk about these guys enough!) and I’m very excited to see them hit the Brooklyn Bowl stage again. The new album is BITCHIN’. So I can’t wait to see what their stage show turns out to be this time around!
