I had the pleasure of witnessing three hours of one of my all time favorite bands in 2018 – The Smashing Pumpkins.

When it was announced that the band would be returning to Las Vegas for two nights at The Chelsea inside of the Cosmopolitan, I jumped at the chance to grab my tickets for the show. I was lucky enough to be able to score for the night of July 30th. To see them in such an intimate venue as opposed to the first time, when I saw them at the T-Mobile Arena, is, in my opinion, a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The one thing about The Smashing Pumpkins that I cannot stress enough, especially as a life long fan, is how incredible they are live. You can close your eyes and it doesn’t matter if it’s something from Gish or Shiny and Oh So Bright, it’s as if you have the record on the stereo. Billy Corgan’s voice still holds up as well as it did in 1988.

The current line up of the band consists of Billy Corgan on lead vocal, James Iha on guitar, Jimmy Chamberlin on drums, Jeff Schroeder on guitar and keyboard, and touring musicians Katie Cole on keyboard and Jack Bates on bass.

I am curious how, in such a smaller place compared to the giant arena stage, they will bring their visual display. I guess we will have to wait and see. They could play with the lights out, and I wouldn’t care. Although, I do hope this time they play “Perfect” as that is all that was missing from the last tour.

Tickets for their The World is A Vampire Tour are on sale now. Make sure to head over to their website for a chance to grab yours.

Originally from Illinois, Stephy is the daughter of an aspiring metal guitarist and a former rock n roll radio dj. Stephy’s first concert at the tender age of 8 was Rob Zombie at the original Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, where she happily threw horns up and sang along to "Dragula" with the best of them ( she incidentally loves horror films too!) . She performed with the VGA choir at the 2007 Video Game Awards show at Mandalay Bay when it was hosted by Samuel L Jackson, sharing the stage with the likes of Foo Fighters as well as Kid Rock. An LVA alum, when she isn’t singing or playing herself (she plays a few different instruments), she is out in support of the local scene and at her friends gigs around the southwest and even when she is back home in Illinois! She has written as well as done some photography previously for a couple of smaller zines including Vegas SoundZ when it was in print. Stephy takes the adage of ” If it’s too loud that is just too damn bad! ” to heart- after all- she was raised around screaming guitars, thunderous drums, production studios and only Led Zeppelin and Nirvana played extremely loud would put her to sleep as a kid! Stephy is a large part of the backbone of ZRockR.
