June 21 – 22, 2025 – This past weekend, I wandered downtown and to the Punk Rock Museum to celebrate 25 years of Bayside. Covering their back to back shows at Fremont Country Club, and to see the addition of their display at the museum. This was easily one of the coolest celebrations I’ve been able to be a part of.
Opening the shows both nights were The Smoking Popes. I’d never heard this band before, despite their extensive history through the 90’s and 2000’s. An appropriate opener, in my opinion. Especially since their song “Megan” was a song Bayside had covered, and people didn’t realize it wasn’t a Bayside song. The Smoking Popes made little jokes about that, which I found cheeky and personable. While The Smoking Popes have never been on my personal playlists, I’ll be adding them after all of this. They have just the right amount of punky soul that really puts me in the right mood.
The Errors Tour was unlike anything I’ve experienced in a long time. The two night experience indulged fans (and myself) no matter where they stand in their Bayside journey. Night one was a curated mix of older, more classic from the beginning Bayside. Opening up with “Montauk,” and closing the night out with “Devotion & Desire.” While night two was more of their newer material, opening up with one of their newest releases, “How to Ruin Everything”, and closing out with the ever catchy, “Sick, Sick, Sick.” It was a perfect way to showcase their longevity in a scene that so often sees acts come and go. Night one was completely sold out, and night two, while it wasn’t sold out to the brim, was still a very packed in crowd. Many of us all came to see Bayside both nights, so familiar faces were seen all around from day to day. Between both evenings, there was no shortage of energy and excitement flowing through Fremont Country Club.
I had to spend a little bit of time figuring out how to lay this coverage out, just because, as I’ve mentioned before… Bayside seems to have a soft spot for Las Vegas. I’ve seen them come in and do special one off nights, acoustic tours, and all sorts of fun things through the years. I didn’t get to hang out and see bassist Nick Ghanbarian’s DJ set after the main show the first night, which I’m definitely kicking myself for and regretting not taking this entire weekend off from my day gig. But I did get to see them early in the day on Sunday at The Punk Rock Museum. Again, Vegas is special.
At the Punk Rock Museum, (which is literally one of the coolest places I’ve ever been) Bayside performed an intimate three song cover set in the Pennywise Garage. Rancid’s “Roots & Radicals”, “Do What You Want” by Bad Religion, and NOFX’s “Linoleum”; which was extra special… Fat Mike happened to be standing a person or two in front of me and slightly to my right, with a look of awe and pride. Though he did try to be silly and get in Anthony’s face at the start of the song, it was all in good fun. After the short set, we headed upstairs to see the case that held 25 years of memories, merch, lamenants, photos, and all sorts of really awesome pieces of Bayside’s journey. The guys took turns throughout discussing their favorite pieces, and some backstories about some of the artifacts on display. It was truly an awesome thing to witness and be a part of.
Cheers to 25 years, Bayside!
