April 28, 2026 – Emo Orchestra: The Spill Canvas with Greywind in Dallas, TX
The Emo Orchestra Tour came through and united all the Dallas emos for a night of reminiscing in our vans. Tears were shed, fists were in the air,and heads were banging all night.
Greywind kicked things off with a short but sweet set. The Irish emo duo, Steph on vocals and Paul on acoustic guitar, have an infectious stage energy that is hard to describe but just know I really enjoyed watching and listening to them. I’d seen the name Greywind around a lot recently but hadn’t stopped to check them out–I will absolutely be listening to their new album, “Severed Heart City,” and the rest of their discography.
Following Greywind’s stellar set, The Spill Canvas took to the stage and delivered emo banger after emo banger with a full-on orchestra! The band kicked off their set with their own “All Hail The Heartbreaker” followed by some of emo’s most classic jams like Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle,” Death Cab for Cutie’s “I Will Follow You Into The Dark,” and “Ohio Is For Lovers” by Hawthorne Heights. There is something truly cathartic about screaming the lyrics to songs we (a room full of 30-something emos) used to listen to in high school while wearing entirely too much eyeliner. The Spill Canvas brought out Greywind’s vocalist Steph to perform “If It Means A Lot To You” by A Day To Remember before exiting for a quick intermission.
Upon their return, The Spill Canvas unknowingly began healing my inner 17-year-old when they played “The Tide 2.0.” I have such a vivid memory of hearing that track for the first time and spending an entire day learning how to play it on my guitar and subsequently being asked to go to the garage to continue my playing as I was annoying my entire household.
More emo classics were played–“Thnks fr th Mmrs” by Fall Out Boy and “Make Damn Sure” by Taking Back Sunday had the whole crowd jumping and singing along to all the lyrics. The band exited the stage while lead singer Nick Thomas performed “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s acoustically with the orchestra providing gorgeous accompaniment. Afterwards, the band came back to the stage and brought Steph back out for an epic rendition of Paramore’s “Misery Business” before ending the evening with their own “All Over You.”
This was the coolest, most unique show I have been to, maybe ever. If you’re feeling nostalgic for the better days of emo, grab a ticket to the Emo Orchestra tour at www.emosnotdead.com.
