Heroine Honey and Nirvanamania played the Tuscany Copa Room on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
It’s always a good time for rock and roll at the Tuscany’s Copa Room! I’m a huge fan of classic 80s hard rock and metal, but am pleased to see that the bands on the bill sometimes veer into the 90s alternative rock era as well, having grown up with much of this music. My thanks as always to Mike, Brian, Grayson, Mitch, and everyone else who continues to make this the go-to spot for rock and roll in Las Vegas!
This night saw two bands hitting the Copa Room stage: Nirvanamania, a tribute to classic 90s alternative/grunge rockers Nirvana, and Heroine Honey, a fantastic local band that’s been around for several years on the Sin City scene now, performing a combination of originals and covers.
One of the first things I noticed was just how crowded the Copa Room was for this night. Nirvana’s music is timeless, and it may very well be the busiest I’ve ever seen the room; I think the only crowd I’ve seen that rivals this one was when former Doors guitarist Robby Krieger took the stage a few months ago! While the room is a bit small and I do wish Tuscany had a larger venue for live rock, it definitely pleases me to see this many people packing a venue and rocking out to live music. In a town with plenty of rival shows and entertainment options, it’s great to see this many people choosing rock over dance clubs and the like.
Heroine Honey kicked off the festivities. The husband/wife duo of Chastity (lead vocals) and Steve Raper (guitar) always does a great job winning over a crowd, and this evening certainly attracted a large one. Even long before Nirvanamania took the stage, the group had a ton of people rocking out to their alternative/power pop sound. Chastity is a gorgeous young woman with one of the best voices in Las Vegas, with her mannerisms and vocal style reminiscent of a young EG Daily. Their band’s originals are fantastic, but audiences also got Beatles and Rage Against the Machine covers, further showing the band’s musical diversity. It was a great way to kick things off.
I don’t think the music of Nirvana needs an introduction. Despite lasting for a relatively short time and only recording three studio albums, Kurt Cobain’s suicide at age 27 put a halt to the band’s meteoric rise… yet their music is more popular than it’s ever been. Drummer Dave Grohl went on to found Foo Fighters, who have become massively successful in their own right… but it’s no surprise a good many people want to pay tribute to the all-too-brief career of Nirvana.
There have been many Nirvana tribute bands in and around the Las Vegas Valley, but I have to admit that this was my first time seeing any of them! Although Nirvana’s best-known lineup of Cobain, Grohl, and bassist Kurt Novoselic was a trio, Nirvanamania adds an additional guitarist to give the music an extra layer, which I personally as a fan thought was a good move.
Nirvana’s core catalogue consists of three studio albums released from 1989-1993, an additional release of outtakes, and some assorted rarities and B-sides. It’s fairly limited compared to some other bands of the era, but Nirvanamania took a deep plunge and gave this audience what they were looking for and then some, with a setlist that pleased casual and deeper fans alike! Classic anthems like “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Come As You Are,” and “Rape Me” came to life in the Copa Room, with the packed concert floor filled with fans rocking out singing every lyric! But the band didn’t stop there, with even deeper gems like “Sliver” from the INCESTICIDE outtakes collection and the underrated non-album cut “Sappy” (AKA “Verse Chorus Verse”) which further establishes these guys as true fans of the music they’re paying tribute to. Chastity from Heroine Honey even joined the band at one point, having previously expressed her love for Nirvana’s music. And at no point during this show did the level of energy from the crowd or the band ever dissipate. I look forward to seeing Nirvanamania again in the near future.
Nirvanamania rocked the house at the Copa Room, and Heroine Honey’s opening set was a great way to begin the festivities. It’s great that Tuscany’s gigs consist of not only bands who thrived in the 80s, but the 90s as well, and it’s likely we’ll continue to see more tributes to the 1990s bands as the months pass. You owe it to yourself to check out Nirvanamania’s set if you’re a fan.
