Sick beats, glorious vocal moments, brilliant choreography and stage production are understatements of vocabulary meant to describe an elysian evening with aespa. This perfect kpop girl group unleashed euphoria throughout American Airlines center with
absolutely bangin’ performances from Karina, Giselle, and Ningning. Unfortunately, Winter was unwell and unable to perform but, the audience held it down for their fourth member!
At 8:00 on the dot, the lights dropped and the enormous three-screen display on stage lit up with a thrilling welcome and the opening intro while fans stood on their feet and cheered for the girls to take the stage. Aespa kicked off the evening with “LEMONADE,” the title track from their second studio album. The group wove through their solid catalog of songs flawlessly throughout their set, hitting all the fan favorites with power. Between massive performances with their dancers and a few costume changes, aespa took a moment in the middle of their set to highlight each singer individually. Karina did her solo on “16 Bit,” Gisell soloed “BYEB4HELLO,” and Ningning sang a stunning rendition of “I Love You But I Gotta Let You Go” while donned in a gorgeous glittery white gown.
In between each mini “set,” the group would head backstage for a break while they played storytelling clips on the big screens that told the tale of their latest release, “SYNK: COMPLæXITY.” Towards the end of the main set, while aespa took their last break, the screens would play short clips from their music videos. After each clip, the screens gave a countdown and at the end, cameras would land on members of the audience to give their shots at recreating the choreography. The music video for “Roll” played before aespa came back out for their two-song encore: YEPPI YEPPI, followed by words from each member of the group expressing their gratitude for the audience and mention of Texas brisket (yeehaw!) and ending explosively on “’Til We Die,” complete with confetti canons!
If you are new to the world of kpop, take a dive into the world of aespa. Their melodies are wonderful, their style is impeccable and their choreography and performances are truly supreme. There are four more North American dates left on the SYNK:
