Earshot returned to Las Vegas for the first time since (from our research) 2004. Fifteen years is a long time, but the crowd at Count’s Vamp’d was ready to welcome them back with open arms.

The Nocturnal Affair.

Opening up for Earshot were local favorites The Nocturnal Affair. They played their first show back since May 9th, when they made a stop on their tour with the 69 Eyes. We covered that show, and you can read about it HERE .

The Nocturnal Affair, as always, delivered one hell of a show. Since their debut tour the band has gotten tighter. Vocalist Brendan Shane has continued to come out of his shell and it shows. He commands the crowd with ease alongside his bandmates.

Whether you are their for their updated Type-O-Negative style originals, or even their Nine Inch Nails cover of “Terrible Lie”, this is a band that fails to disappoint.

Earshot is a band that, if you have heard them, you fall in love with. Their heavy style provides the springboard for vocalist Wil Martin‘s smooth voice.

While it is apparent that Martin is the heart and soul of this band, those who he has taken on tour with him certainly deliver the songs as they should be. And when you are playing to a packed house like Vamp’d was on August 9th, it helps.

I found it effortless to stay entertained. No matter who my eyes fell on, the band had energy. Martin still performs with ease, and his vocals carry well, even though the band is 20 years old at this point.

Martin provided a storyteller like show, discussing the meanings behind the music. This is something I usually love or hate, as it can be overkill. In this case, it was great to hear the backstory of some of the band’s best material.

They delivered a 16 song set to a crowd that sang along with almost every word. I truly hope it made the band feel good to know they are still able to pack a house with true fans, and I hope to see them back very soon.

Originally from Illinois, Stephy is the daughter of an aspiring metal guitarist and a former rock n roll radio dj. Stephy’s first concert at the tender age of 8 was Rob Zombie at the original Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, where she happily threw horns up and sang along to "Dragula" with the best of them ( she incidentally loves horror films too!) . She performed with the VGA choir at the 2007 Video Game Awards show at Mandalay Bay when it was hosted by Samuel L Jackson, sharing the stage with the likes of Foo Fighters as well as Kid Rock. An LVA alum, when she isn’t singing or playing herself (she plays a few different instruments), she is out in support of the local scene and at her friends gigs around the southwest and even when she is back home in Illinois! She has written as well as done some photography previously for a couple of smaller zines including Vegas SoundZ when it was in print. Stephy takes the adage of ” If it’s too loud that is just too damn bad! ” to heart- after all- she was raised around screaming guitars, thunderous drums, production studios and only Led Zeppelin and Nirvana played extremely loud would put her to sleep as a kid! Stephy is a large part of the backbone of ZRockR.
