Retrosonic – Half a Century’s Worth of Covers at the Tuscany Copa Room!

Retrosonic played the Tuscany Copa Room on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Las Vegas remains a rock and roll town all these years later, and the Copa Room at the Tuscany Hotel and Casino continues to remain an integral part of this. As always, my thanks to Mike, Brian, Grayson, Mitch, and everyone there who has filled a void left in this town by the closure of Count’s Vamp’d nearly a year ago.

On Saturday, June 20, the Copa Room saw the arrival of Retrosonic, a band specializing in a wide and eclectic mix of cover songs spanning several decades. Bands performing covers are a dime a dozen in this town, and while I hadn’t seen a Retrosonic gig before, I was certainly intrigued by this gig. It promised a diverse mix of songs, and the presence of the always reliable Keith Robert on guitar makes any band better. Even before the gig, this guy was making the rounds, thanking his followers for coming out. The guy appreciates his fans, especially in a town with so much competing entertainment.

The band took the stage around 8:00 PM, and one thing that was immediately noticeable was the sheer size of the band. The Tuscany’s Copa Room has a nice stage and the room has a great intimate feel, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen six musicians crammed up there all at once before. That said, they made good use of the stage. Fronting the band was vocalist Kelly Goodwin, who had a definite stage presence; any time we can get more women on the stage rocking out is a good thing, and she proved herself capable and then some, singing a wide variety of songs throughout the night! There was also a raffle going on in the evening for a staycation at the Tuscany, and I was pleased to see the room was quite full for the gig. While it was largely a “sit down” affair at first, it wasn’t long before fans began rocking out on the dance floor. From Tom Petty to the Cars, from Stealers Wheel to Johnny Cash, Retrosonic played anything and everything.

One of the true attractions of this night was its special guest stars. First up was Mark Huff. These days a musician working out of Nashville, he’s probably best known to most rock fans as the one-time vocalist of Quiet Riot, serving as that band’s first singer since the death of classic vocalist Kevin DuBrow. While practically unrecognizable nowadays (he looked more like Neil Young than someone who briefly fronted a glam band), he had a surprising stage presence, complete with acoustic guitar in hand and vocals that suited these classic rock numbers surprisingly well. I would’ve loved to hear him do at least one Quiet Riot song, but he definitely made an impression. I’d love to see this guy come back and do a solo gig one day.

Next up on deck for guests were two members of local band Voxxx: Abby Ortiz and Michael Maysonet! Maysonet has long been one of Sin City’s most reliable drummers, playing in more bands than I can count, and always making an impression. Ortiz is one of the most charismatic, entertaining, and beautiful frontwomen rocking stages in Vegas, and any time the audience gets to see this young lady doing her thing, they get their world rock. With her powerful vocals, undeniable stage presence, and good looks, she lights up any stage she’s on. Getting to hear this pair rock the stage to a cover of AC/DC’s “Walk All Over You” may have been the biggest highlight of a packed evening.

Every musician on stage this evening gave maximum effort on this evening. My only complaint with an otherwise stellar evening was that, while the performances were all excellent, it was a bit too much and overlong. I do appreciate that Tuscany has begun starting many of their rock gigs at a decent hour (this one started at 8pm rather than 10pm), but the two sets the band played were each the length of a full concert! I will admit that I didn’t last the entire night. Not because the music and musicians weren’t great, but because two sets were simply too long and ran too late. A gig should be one long set with all the highlights, not two full-length ones with an intermission. I do hope the Tuscany continues the trend of starting shows in the Copa Room earlier (shows should end at 10pm and not start at that time), but bands should just bring their A-game for one full-length set.

Retrosonic did a damn good job rocking the Copa Room, even if I couldn’t quite make it to the end on account of the sheer length of the two sets. The band members are some of Vegas’ best players, and the special guests definitely put a spin on the evening that made it all the more memorable. This is a town packed with bands that play covers, but Retrosonic scores major points for digging deeper with their setlists, and having some of the most capable artists in town bringing them back to life. If you love classic rock and pop, Retrosonic delivers the goods. Don’t hesitate to check out their next live gig!
