The Faceless, Lorna Shore, Dyscarnate, and The Convalescence
August 1, 2018
Beauty Bar, Las Vegas

There’s only a couple of venues in town that I’d say cater to the heavier side of metal. Beauty Bar is one of those places! This death metal/deathcore line up was sure to fulfill the needs of those looking for a much heavier atmosphere. Even with it being in the middle of the week, there was nothing short of high energy the entire evening!

The Convalescence

The Convalescence is a symphonic deathcore/death metal band from Toledo, OH. Formed in 2011, I’m actually curious as to how I hadn’t ever heard of them before. Think Winds of Plague dipped in some Lamb of God, blended up with “The Cleansing” era of Suicide Silence. Interesting blend, but solid nonetheless!

Dyscarnate

Hailing all the way from the U.K., Dyscarnate comes to Las Vegas for the first time on this bill. This trio has a more traditional approach to the death metal genre… but you can throw some thrashy and groovy riffs in there and you’ve definitely got something unique on the table! I’d classify them as Technical Thrash Death. You decide for yourself if it’s for you! No disappointments from this perspective!

Lorna Shore

I had been anticipating this band with their new line up! I just recently caught their previous vocalist with Chelsea Grin at the Van’s Warped Tour. Lorna Shore comes to us from New Jersey, founded in 2010 towards the end of the peak of deathcore. BUT… these guys are underrated in my opinion, they’re true gems of the genre. C.J. McCreery is so new to the band that their Facebook hasn’t even been updated yet! He brings a more intense presence to an already intense group of guys, and I’m excited to see where this chapter takes them!

The Faceless

California technical death metal band, The Faceless… Is there anything about that that doesn’t just scream at you? I hadn’t seen these guys since maybe 2008. Planetary Duality was one of my favorite heavy albums of that time period. Dedicated fans filled the venue for their set. And for good reason… They are as solid as I remember. They’re one of those groups of guys who understand music in general, and clearly they know how to make themselves stand out with that… they have NO limitations as to what they’re capable of producing! Mixes between heavy riffs and breathtaking solos had me all sorts of blown away. Like I mentioned, solid as I remember.
