Last year in LA, I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Visions of Atlantis for the first time when they toured with Delain at venue 1720. They opened the night, and I immediately put my anchor down in that crowd. I was honestly in complete shock because I had never heard their music before that night. They are a full-on symphonic pirate wonderland.  Their setlist featured songs from their eighth studio album, Pirates, which had just been released in May 2022. That drive back to Vegas consisted of an array of VoA listening. I’ve been hooked ever since.

When I found out they were coming to The Usual Place with a new album barely a year old, you better believe I was going to be there.

Switzerland’s own Seraina Telli opening bringing warrior goddess energy to the stage and can roar like a lion. She reminds me of what it would be like if Kesha, Lady Gaga, Elvis, and Billy Idol had a baby. She’s part of a guitarist and drummer duo kind of like The White Stripes, but reversed. She has an insane vocal range (I’m talking Mariah Carey whistle notes to screaming), and she is a true empowering songwriter. Some of her songs include “I’m Not Sorry”, “Song for the Girls”, and “Modern Warrior”.  It’s also refreshing how grateful and genuine they are with the crowd.  They were a great opener and I hope they get more headlining shows. She has a gift that needs to be shared.

Visions of Atlantis themselves are made up of French, Italian, and Austrian musicians. Clémentine Delauney (vocals) opened their set with a stunning silhouette in her full pirate glory. Sharing vocal duties with her is Michele Guaitoli, whose powerful voice perfectly balances hers. On guitars is Christian Douscha, bringing the riffs and energy to the stage, while Herbert Glos holds down the low end on bass. Thomas Caser, one of the founding members, absolutely crushes it on drums. With all the props on stage, I do wish they had a little more room to move around, but they made it work like true professionals.

The way Clémentine and Michele trade off vocals and feed off each other’s energy is unreal — they don’t just perform, they live it. The whole band is locked in so tight, it’s like being hit with a full-on pirate storm in the best way possible. Visions of Atlantis is exactly what their name promises — a vision.

A little bonus for me was seeing the infamous concert photographer Lina Glasir. I have adored her concert photography work for years so it was great seeing her do her thing for the band. She’s come a long way!  Their setlist that night included fan favorites like “Clocks,” “Legions of the Seas,” (I was so set after hearing that) and “Pirates Will Return.” They also played newer tracks like “Armada,” “Tonight I’m Alive,” and “Monsters.”

If you ever get the chance to see Visions of Atlantis live, don’t miss it. It’s more than a concert — it’s a full-blown adventure.

Christina (Rosenfeld) Corcoran- Photographer- Hey guys! I'm Christina. I'm originally from New York but I gave up the snow for the sun and moved to Las Vegas. That happened about 5 years ago which is crazy. I've been a concert photographer for 5+ years. I love it regardless of it's challenges. I'm a fan of all genres of music but metal will always soothe my little black heart (especially with a "female front". I say that in quotes because it's a delicate subject). Fun fact: The Monkees were the first band I ever loved. I was 5 when I was introduced to them. They were also my first concert when I was 6. When I'm not photographing in the pit, I usually have my hands on someone's face. Fun fact: I'm an esthetician/makeup artist. I also enjoy them very much. I love making people feel their best. If you want to make me happy, give me a taco. See you at the next show \m/
