April 22, 2026 – The Spring Horizons Tour is here! One of the most anticipated tours for metalcore fans everywhere is upon us, and ZRockR Magazine was lucky enough to be invited to witness the whole thing in San Antonio, Texas. Featuring a co-headlining duo between title-weight metalcore champions August Burns Red and The Amity Affliction – and supported by Heavensgate and Boundaries, two newer (but still heavy) acts that have been slowing climbing their ways to the top – the show was an emotional release, a display of nearly twenty years of hard-working music, and a super special, personal moment for myself. Let’s get into it.

Heavensgate is a band that I’ve loved since I heard their song “GINSICK” cross my Spotify. With the popularization of such bands as Loathe, Spiritbox, and Thornhill, there’s no end to bands that blend the heavy with the soft. Heavensgate takes a page out of that very same book, but blends the brutality and the gentler elements in unique ways that not everyone else is doing; and that’s why they’re such a stand out performance to witness. Where most bands have been mixing a sort of synthy-shoegazey ambience into their music, Heavensgate utilizes a fuzzy jazz sound. Walking out to smooth jazz was not on my bingo card, but it fits the band well. Technical when they want to be, the band played a group of hits such as “RAT KING”, “GINSICK,” and “A FAWN FLAYED” that demonstrated just how balanced and tight they are as performers.

Boundaries is one of San Antonio’s favorite bands of all time. Boundaries is just one of those bands that’s always here in town, and though I’m not certain if it’s because San Antonio loves them – or vice versa – the one thing that can be said for sure is that the Rock Box will always welcome them with arms and moshpits both wide open. Boundaries has a new album dropping on July 17th, so naturally they had to play a mix of singles of off their upcoming release as well as a slew of bangers that they’ve been carrying around with them for a couple years now. Easily the most hype pit of the night. Be sure to preorder Yearning: The Unbeautiful After and see them if they stop near you.

Amity Affliction was a special one for me. Last year I got to cover them for ZRockR at Summer of Loud Festival in Austin, and it was a truly incredible experience. They were my favorite set of the fest, and to this day I still use those photos as a proud pillar of my portfolio. I managed to give Joel Birch a print that I took on that day, and I even got to shake their hands and have a short conversation with them. A truly wonderful memory I’ll have forever. As for their Spring Horizons performance, they managed to do incredible things with their time on the stage. Check out the setlist below!

And then it was time to see the performance from one of metalcore’s most prominent bands working today. August Burns Red killed it, delivering one of the most hype and energetic shows I’ve ever seen. The band members were jumping up and down and all around, the crowd was going nuts, there was just this prevailing momentum that kept the whole room running. It wasn’t violent or intimidating like some hardcore and metal bands are, but rather joyful. It was as if everyone in the room was genuinely having fun, genuinely running around and moshing and crowdsurfing together like a group of kids on a playground. It was beautiful. There were crying eyes, there were smiles and hugs, honestly, the Spring Horizons Tour was one of the most uplifting shows I’ve ever seen.
