On February 25th, Ukiah, California’s AFI (A Fire Inside) announced their return with their 11th studio album Bodies.
That wasn’t all though. They’ve been teasing us with new music for about a month after releasing graphic videos for “Twisted Tongues” and “Escape from Los Angeles”.
With yesterday’s album information, they also gave us the new singles “Begging For Trouble” and “Looking Tragic”.
How’s it Sound?
If you have followed AFI for a while, then you know by now that they have been reinventing themselves a little with each record, while still holding true to who they are; strong vocals and drums, melodic bass lines, and haunting guitars.
I’ve personally been a fan of the band for two decades now, catching them every tour. No album sounds exactly the same.
If you were expecting Davey, Jade, Hunter, and Adam to stay on the darker side like they did with Burials and The Blood Album, then I’m sorry. The four tracks released so far are catchy and major ear worms. Think more along the Crash Love sound.
“Escape From Los Angeles” and “Begging for Trouble” are fast paced tunes that reminds me a lot of “Veronica Sawyer Smokes”. “Twisted Tongues”, were it just slightly heavier, could easily be off of Sing the Sorrow.
The biggest piece of excitement is the release of the song and video for “Looking Tragic”. The video is incredibly simple compared to the storylines we are used to from AFI. I actually find it quite refreshing.
The band is stripped of any frill or makeup that we’ve seen from them in the past. You get a bit more of a feel for them individually.
As far as the song goes, I already know all the words and it has only been 30 hours. It’s catchy, amazing, and fun. You will find yourself singing it over and over.
When Can I Expect It?
Bodies drops on June 11th on Rise Records. Merch including vinyl is already available at AFI’s official website.
