The strangest lineup of the Summer has to be Alien Ant Farm, Hoobastank, and Soul Asylum. That being said, it is definitely a fun lineup. If you are a 90s/00s kid at heart, this is a lineup I think you can get behind. For me, it will basically be fitting my entire childhood in one 2.5 hour event.

What makes this equally exciting is it is three bands I have never seen live. Alien Ant Farm is one of those bands you don’t hear from much, and most people didn’t even realize that they are still around! Known best for their fun cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal”, the quartet is going strong with the addition of Tim Peugh on bass. Original members Dryden Mitchell, Terry Corso, and Mike Cosgrove are still involved as well, and it will definitely be a pleasure to see them live.

I think every single person had a copy of The Reason when I was in middle and high school. Hoobastank is much more than one silly love song though and have continued to regularly put out albums, their last being in 2018. It’s going to be a fun set to reconnect with my inner emo kid.

Admittedly, I am most excited for Soul Asylum. ZRockR caught them in 2018 and unfortunately I was not able to go. 41 years and they’re still knocking out albums, with their most recent being 2020’s Hurry Up and Wait. While the only original member is vocalist/rhythm guitarist Dave Pirner, the current lineup will not disappoint. Of course I’m looking forward to hits like “Runaway Train”, which was a huge hit in the early 90s, but I am also hoping for something off of their earlier albums like “Long Day”, “Cocaine Blues”, or “Standing in the Doorway”.

This free show will be downtown at Fremont Street Experience on July 30th, and there are tons of other free concerts coming up this Summer down on Fremont Street as well! Check out what else is coming here.

Originally from Illinois, Stephy is the daughter of an aspiring metal guitarist and a former rock n roll radio dj. Stephy’s first concert at the tender age of 8 was Rob Zombie at the original Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, where she happily threw horns up and sang along to "Dragula" with the best of them ( she incidentally loves horror films too!) . She performed with the VGA choir at the 2007 Video Game Awards show at Mandalay Bay when it was hosted by Samuel L Jackson, sharing the stage with the likes of Foo Fighters as well as Kid Rock. An LVA alum, when she isn’t singing or playing herself (she plays a few different instruments), she is out in support of the local scene and at her friends gigs around the southwest and even when she is back home in Illinois! She has written as well as done some photography previously for a couple of smaller zines including Vegas SoundZ when it was in print. Stephy takes the adage of ” If it’s too loud that is just too damn bad! ” to heart- after all- she was raised around screaming guitars, thunderous drums, production studios and only Led Zeppelin and Nirvana played extremely loud would put her to sleep as a kid! Stephy is a large part of the backbone of ZRockR.
