SCORCHING THE EARTH! Overkill is coming back to Vegas!

On July 15th one of the East Coast’s bests, OVERKILL will be back in the City of Sin to dominate 24Oxford inside the Virgin hotel. With them they are bringing Heathen; who reigns from the Bay Area (CA), and NOLA’s Exhoarder. This evening is definitely going to be an evening of killer thrash for all those in favor of bands from the genre that maybe don’t quite get the attention they so deserve.

Heathen

As if you needed any more reason to be adamantly listening to the sounds from the Bay Area anyway, HEATHEN are an underground thrash fan’s wet dream. I had the pleasure of catching them last year when they were here in town, and they definitely bring the energy that one expects to experience when it comes to a thrash show. With a mosh pit in full swing, and the kind of crowd interaction that makes you feel seen, you should definitely be getting to the show early to see these guys hype up the crowd!

Exhorder

This is not the first time we’ve seen NOLA badasses Exhorder tour with Overkill. We caught them out at Brooklyn Bowl just before the world closed down in the midst of Covid. This band is another must know band in my opinion. They’re notorious for supposedly providing the legendary band Pantera with their sound, but there isn’t any weird or bad blood there. (Phil Anselmo is from NOLA, and has been longtime friends with the guys in Exhorder.) And I swear we need not keep talking about my Pantera fandom. It was a no brainer that I also very much enjoy the groove and familiar sound that graces my ears whenever I hear these guys. Obviously slightly biased, but I am excited to see these guys again for sure. This middle slot is a perfect place for them on this tour.

Overkill

And the final band for the evening, and who this tour is all about, OVERKILL. This tour cycle Overkill are running in support of their latest album, “Scorched” which was released earlier this spring. “Scorched” is the band’s TWENTIETH album. Yes. You read that correctly. Twenty albums that this legendary gem has released. Bobby Blitz’s distinct vocals are as on point as ever, and the thrash sound is ever present, yet ever so modern in this release. Sometimes thrash can get predictable, and I think Overkill knows this. But let’s face it – these guys have always stood out from the pack as it is, so naturally they bring other shit to the table than some of the more popular bands that commonly end up in the spotlight. I mean, they kind of have to, right?

This will be the third time for us to be catching these guys, and I can’t say I even know what to expect. Both previous times we’ve seen these guys they provide an energetic and entertaining live show experience that will leave you questioning just how old (or young?) they actually are!

I do think 24 Oxford will be a great venue for this tour lineup as well. As much as I love Brooklyn Bowl, that venue is hard to pack as it is and this show being at 24 Oxford will give a much more intimate experience for those diehard fans that always show up to see these guys rip the stage up. Add in that this venue has beautiful lighting, complemented by an interesting room shape that you can hear the show perfectly from any corner of, I expect that the night will be one for the book for all us metalheads here in the Las Vegas Valley!
